Learn to Talk for a Fit Mind: Peer Counselling Skills Intro and Full Programme

In today’s society it is all too easy to feel lonely and disconnected from others and this can have a negative impact on our mental health and the quality of our life.

At Talk for Health we know that true connection happens when we let go of our social masks and start being who we really are and that this is why we run our 4.5 day wellbeing programme: to help you feel more connected to yourself and other people.

Our Programme teaches the skills of authentic talking, empathic listening and managing a group. This enables all our graduates to go on and join or set up their own ongoing groups for connection and wellbeing. Without the need for professional therapists – which is why we call them peer-to-peer support groups. We believe that by learning these basic skills, people can support each other and make a real positive difference to their mental health.

We invite you to come and enjoy a three hour Intro session, which is FREE for people living, studying or with a GP in Islington to find out if it is right for you.

The Induction will give you a chance to experience some of the four key learning areas of our full programme:

  • Open and truthful talking
  • Empathic listening
  • Basic counselling skills
  • How to set up an ongoing group to take care of your own wellbeing and enable others to do so

Come join us and learn how to talk to for a fit mind!

After the Induction, you can go straight into a learners’ Chair and Share group, where you will learn peer counselling skills as well as plenty of space to talk and get/give support. You can also sign up to the Full Programme if you’d like to gain more knowledge in the key learning areas.

As we are funded by Islington NHS we have to give priority to Islington residents, students, or those with a GP in either of those boroughs. If you live outside of those boroughs we invite you to attend a taster and we are able to invite you to join the programme if there are unfilled spaces.

Please note that if at any point either before or during the programme facilitators feel that by taking part there is a risk of detriment to your wellbeing then you will not be allowed to continue with the programme.  Facilitators will support with suggestions for alternative referrals.
